Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 3
The game between Mona and her mysterious chess partner continues, while Alison gets dangerously closer to finding out the truth about Taylor. Meanwhile, an old secret crushes the newborn friendship between Ava and Caitlin.

On Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 4, Emily Fields calls it quits with Alison, while Mason threatens to expose the Perfectionists’ secrets. Meanwhile, Alison’s hunt for Taylor continues, and Mona has an unusual encounter with… Ray Hogadorn?

The End of Emison

While the shippers are understandably heartbroken, I thought this break up was refreshing for The Perfectionists. Why? Well, first of all Alison’s arc can be mostly about the mystery. Since the announcement of the spin-off, every fan question about Alison was always surrounding Emison. This wasn’t right for one of the most important characters of Pretty Little Liars, the girl who was at the core of the mystery.

Looking at the history Alison and Emily have had with each other, and all the trust that was broken, it’s not surprising to find out that Emily still doesn’t trust Alison. It was actually realistic to see that Emily can’t get past the past. The girl who would accept anything Alison would throw at her, every humiliation and lie, stood up for herself and petitioned for divorce. It was brave, it was hard, but Emily moved on. I hope she can find happiness, whether it’s with a new girl or with Paige; of all her ex-girlfriends, she’s the one Emily should have ended up with.

PLL: The Perfectionists Season 1 Episode 4

The writers handled this whole situation respectfully, and what Mona said in the pilot makes sense even more now: Alison needs to meet someone who doesn’t know her cruel and manipulative side (or someone able who is able to embrace it, like Mona). Someone who—unlike Emily—has no reason to doubt her intentions. Alison DiLaurentis’ journey for happiness continues, and I’m ready to see where it takes her. She’s been through so much and she has to pick up all the pieces of her broken marriage, but I’m sure that eventually she will find love again. She deserves to be happy.

Caitlin’s old secret was so unexpected, and while I feel for Ava, I also feel bad for Caitlin. Let’s be real, we’ve all gossiped about someone at least once. Caitlin had no idea of the repercussions it would have on Ava’s life. She seemed genuinely sorry and heartbroken, and now her perfect world is crumbling down… I hope she stays strong and Ava will be able to forgive her.

Caitlin (as if it wasn’t enough) also had a little fight with Jeremy when he found out she lied about where she was (she didn’t go out on a date with him to get a confession out of Mason at school). I think this is the cutest couple on the show at the moment, but should we trust Jeremy? I don’t think so. Just a feeling.

Meanwhile, Andrew broke up with Dylan after he confessed what happened between him and Nolan, and while Andrew’s reaction is totally understandable, I’m more curious to see what will Dylan do to win Andrew back.

Speaking of Ava again, during her emotional rant she was holding Nolan’s camera lens. As one of PLL‘s most loyal fans, I’m wondering… Nolan trusted Ava. Does the lens contain one of Nolan’s secrets? It reminds me of the snow globe that Alison gave to Emily back in the day, which secretly contained a storage key.

So Much Mystery

If Pretty Little Liars taught us anything, it’s that there’s no way that the janitor is Ray Hogadorn unless he’s wearing a super realistic mask (please, no). This mysterious person, in what looks almost like a vintage ‘A’ lair, who kept track of every news story involving the Hotchkiss family. Is it Taylor? Or her apparently dead father? People keep dropping like flies around Claire, and no one seems to worry about it.

Claire continues to be one of the most interesting characters on The Perfectionists. This week she delivered a simple but iconic line while talking to Dana: “Turn up the heat.” Coincidentally, while we find out that Ava’s dad used to call her “beautiful dreamer,” Ava receives a mysterious music box playing the song “Beautiful Dreamer,” right after Dana questions her about her father’s money. Does this gift mean he’s back? I think Dana had something to do with it. There are no coincidences in Rosewood, and Beacon Heights is no different. Dana wants to break the Perfectionists apart.

We don’t know if Taylor ever found the Emerald City, but we definitely know she found Alison snooping around her trailer. Taylor panicked and locked Alison inside. Can  the next episode air already?
