Kat and Adena are not social distancing and we should allow them to do that.
On The Bold Type Season 4 Episode 10,”Some Kind of Wonderful,” Sutton makes an important decision about her future on her wedding day. Meanwhile, Kat and Adena continue their battle against RJ Safford, and Jane struggles with what to do about Ryan.
The Truth Will Set You Free
The episode picks up the morning after Jane and Ryan’s big fight, and it’s very clear that not much of anything was resolved between them. Unfortunately for tiny Jane, the rest of the world keeps moving in spite of what happened between her and Ryan, and she has to leave things as is so she can get to work. On top of needing to figure out what to write for her vertical, she’s also helping Sutton plan her wedding and has an important surgery coming up. Needless to say she has a lot going on and I admire her for being able to handle it all at once. Although I’m not a fan of this Jane/Ryan cheating storyline, I do appreciate where it ends up (and that it’s finally over, regardless of what she chooses to do), and I’m really looking forward to see what happens next with Jane. Especially what happens in regards to things that aren’t Ryan related like her surgery and her vertical.
I honestly just feel terrible for Jane throughout the entirety of this episode. She’s scared of what her life would look like without Ryan, but also scared of staying with him and never being able to fully trust the person she’s with. Bottom line is: Jane deserves better.
It’s Sutton’s big day and I still can’t believe how fast it got here. She begins the day in bed with her soon to be husband but then gets a text from Oliver asking her to come into the office so he can give her a wedding gift. This leads to a very stressful scene between the two of them because they both have big news for one another and you don’t know who is gonna tell who first. Not only is the scene stressful it’s also very emotional. As I’m sure you all assumed already, Sutton has to decide between accepting Oliver’s promotion, and keeping her promise to Richard about moving to San Fransisco, and it’s a roller coaster ride to say the least.
There is definitely no shortage of heartfelt Sutton moments in this episode. Her and Oliver broke me at least twice and of course she shares really sweet moments with the girls, Richard, and her mother as well. I wish Meghann Fahy would come onto Twitter so we could all applaud her after the mid-season finale airs because she barely had any breaks from crying.
Kat and Adena continue their mission to take down RJ Safford and are ready to expose his tax returns if that’s what it takes. However, things don’t go as smoothly as they anticipated when they go to confront him, hand in hand, and a new antagonist is introduced. (This bitch is already worse than Cleo and Patrick combined.) After their conversation with RJ goes awry, they discuss what their next steps should be and worry about the consequences…though they seem to be more worried about the consequences each other will face, not themselves.
Their dynamic this episode is very intriguing to watch because they’re both kind of back and forth on what to do about the whole situation. One of them will be ready to risk it all and then one of them will get concerned about what would happen to the other and sort of talk them off the ledge, and then they’ll switch places. There’s moments throughout the episode where Adena is fearless and Kat is scared, and then there’s moments where Kat is bold and brave and it’s Adena who needs reassurance. All in all I just really enjoyed watching them work together and they’ve already made so much progress from when Adena first came back to Scarlet. It’s very clear how much they still care about each other, and much like Wendy Straker Hauser said, it feels like they’re finally on equal footing.
I think everything that happened between Kat and Adena in the mid-season finale felt very realistic. In past finales something crazy, good or bad, has happened for their relationship (like them going to Peru, them breaking up in Paris, Adena getting a job at Scarlet and Kat saying she wants to be single etc.) What happens this time doesn’t feel rushed or out of character or crazy, it just makes sense and feels like genuine growth. As long as things keep heading in this direction, and we see them reunited soon, I’m good. I just hope the writers don’t wait too long, especially since we’ve yet to hear about a renewal, because fans of Kadena deserve to not only see them GET together but actually BE together.
The majority of Kat’s time is spent with Adena in this episode, but she also spends a good amount of time celebrating the wedding with Jane and Sutton too, don’t worry. I’m also really excited to see what happens next with Kat because, as the description for the episode promised, there’s some big changes headed her way.
As for Jacqueline, she was basically an advice guru in this episode. At one point she gives Jane advice about her vertical, then shortly after she gives Oliver advice about Sutton, and later on she gives Richard some advice about love and marriage. Although her romantic arc with Miles seems to be on the back burner for now, I’m interested to see what happens next. I’ve suspected that they were just going to end up putting her back with Ian, and that is who I’m personally rooting for her to choose, but I feel like it could still go either way. At the end of the day I just want her to be
with a woman happy, no matter who she is with.
Lastly, I think people should listen to the lyrics of songs that play in the background of certain scenes, as well as words that are spoken when the camera pans over certain couples. It seems very intentional.
